Dr. Ranjana Dhanu came like a blessing into my life! I truly believe she is God sent! I met her for the first time when i checked into the ER at P D Hinduja hospital one night for unstoppable heavy bleeding. It was a medical emergency and an extremely frightening, life threatening situation. In spite of it being a Sunday, past midnight, Dr. Ranjana came to see me. Her extensive knowledge, understanding of my condition and the way she explained everything to me, immediately put me at ease. I realised I had come to the right place after seeing another gynaec earlier that week who had more or less told me to undergo a hysterectomy at age 41! During my treatment with
her, never once did she mention the word “hysterectomy” ! Doctor first treated me with medications and only when they didn’t really help much was I told that I will have to undergo an emergency laparoscopic myomectomy as I had already lost a lot of blood and was anaemic. Not only did Dr Ranjana explain everything to me about the surgery which was complicated as I had multiple fibroids but she also ensured I was doing fine during the course of my hospital stay by checking on me every hour. Her team would visit me every hour to check my vitals and also to enquire about my condition. I can absolutely say that I was taken very good care of, as Dr Ranjana is an intuitive doctor who understands the patient’s psychology and is genuinely compassionate towards patients like me who are of a nervous temperament with a low tolerance to pain. The surgery was performed and was successful. I was walking the next day after surgery and discharged a day later with no complications.
I can absolutely recommend Dr. Ranjana Dhanu to anyone with a complicated gynaecological issue, she is THE gynaec to go to! Her expertise in laparoscopic and minimal invasive surgery is par excellence, she is the person you go to when other doctors have advised open surgery or hysterectomies especially if you are younger or not menopausal. I’m feeling wonderful! I’m just amazed that I had surgery only one day ago, and today I’m already feeling excellent.
I had postmenopausal bleeding, which I know is something serious. So when I got back to school last week on Friday, I approached the school nurse and said to her, “I think I need to see a gynecologist. Could you recommend someone?” She recommended Dr. Dhanu and also helped me set up an appointment at Hinduja Hospital.
I came here on Saturday afternoon, and Dr. Dhanu immediately sent me for several tests. It was clear that there was an issue that needed to be dealt with straight away. I came back to the hospital on Monday, just two days later, collected all the test reports, and my surgery was arranged for the following morning. Everything happened really quickly and smoothly. I didn’t even have time to sit around at home getting nervous or worried about it. And as you can see, today I’m back to normal again and feeling great!
My only previous experiences with hospitals have been in the UK and in Holland, and I have to say, this has been quite a wonderful experience compared to those. It actually feels like being in a hotel — a very comfortable room, lots of nice food, and everyone has been so kind and attentive. The nurses have been amazing, and the care I received before, during, and after the surgery was fantastic.
For me, one of the best things was how supported I felt, especially because I was extremely nervous. I had never undergone planned surgery before, and I was anxious about being anesthetized and about what was going to happen. I asked lots of questions, and I felt that every single one of them was answered patiently. That gave me great confidence that the best decisions were being made and that I was receiving the best possible care.

My journey with Dr. Ranjana Dhanu began 18 years ago with the birth of my granddaughter. Dr Ranjana, who gave our family our little bundle of joy, is just a phone call away whenever I need her even today.
I will never forget Dussehra of 2021, not for the festivities but for the sudden shock that I experienced that day. I started bleeding suddenly that morning after almost 40 years of my menopause. Let me start by stating a simple fact – this is not some flowery compliment but a fact – Dr Ranjana Dhanu apart from being an ace in her field quite simply one of the best doctors and people it has been my privilege to know. You would be beyond fortunate to have her as your doctor.
My mom is a 77 year old who had to under a hysterectomy recently, a condition while may be relatively simple for some , for her it turned out more complicated than expected because of an underlying lung condition which only surfaced during the surgery. Dr Dhanu was with us every single step of the way, she called in consults with the necessary specialists and took a holistic view of the entire situation even though some of the areas were not her speciality. She ensured (and I cannot stress how important this is) that all the doctors involved were talking to each other so that the treatment plan for my mother was a sound one. She also ensured I had regular updates about everything going on, not once did I have to ask her for a status. She will take the time to explain to you what she is doing and why.
You hear of the really good doctors being super busy and not available to talk – Dr Dhanu smashes all those comments and cliches to dust. She picks up every single call, responds to evey single message within minutes and will hear you out and reassure you. This believe me is a blessing and comfort beyond compare. I can honestly say I have never had a Doctor pick the up phone and call me to find out how things were – that was an absolute first! With the kind of schedule she has it is nothing short of amazing.
She is extremely vigilant, will never take unnecessary risks, and infact at times was more protective of my mother than me !! 🙂 🙂
